The marketing professional in me is so intrigued by nearly simultaneous dual release of video game and movie, Ratchet & Clank. If you’re a PS2 gamer, you’re probably pretty excited about this new version of the wildly popular eponymous game. Originally issued 14 years ago, the new edition Ratchet & Clank features a high-definition update with new challenges and weapons to boot. While I know gamers are excited about that, the rest of us are maybe a little more excited about the movie release on April 29th.
Ratchet & Clank CG-animated companion movie is based on that same iconic PlayStation video game. Ratchet, who is a Lombax — a weird catlike creature that walks upright — and works as a mechanic on a backwater planet, dreaming of exploring the galaxy, is the last of his kind, and has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is an adorably defective pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. Clank was accidentally created in a factory meant to pump out murderous warbots. These two unlikely heroes stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, and they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called, “The Galactic Rangers” in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.
And… they’re cute.
So stinkin’ cute. Do you recognize the voices? Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson and James Arnold Taylor are all cast members.
To celebrate the movie, I whipped up some stellar character cookies inspired by these lovable do-gooders.
They taste great too. 😉 Focus Features provided the cookie cutters, and here’s a link to my shortbread cookie recipe in case you want to make your own cookies. And because I am terrible at making royal icing, they’re decorated with buttercream frosting, fondant on top, “painted” with food coloring and food markers, and candies (M&M’s and orange slices) glued on with more of the buttercream frosting.
What do you think? Are you ready to find your courage and kick some asteroid?
