Reliant Lights Your Holidays

They’re predicting 100% chance of snow this Saturday at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas.

Seriously.

The snow-filled play area is just one of the many features planned for the festivities in Downtown Dallas.

If snow in our balmy 60 degree temps isn’t enough to bring you downtown, I have a list of 18 other reasons. From 1 – 6 p.m.,

  1. Klyde Warren Park will have a live reindeer
  2. holiday kids crafts
  3. face painting
  4. a balloon artist
  5. demonstrations from Dallas arts and cultural groups
  6. holiday music
  7. a marionette show
  8. a brass quartet
  9. and our beloved food trucks.

Yeah, ALL of that fantastic holiday goodness in one outdoor urban park AND

10) photos with Santa and Mrs Claus.

Don’t leave early because

11) Dallas’s largest outdoor Christmas tree will be lit at 5:45 and immediately afterwards Santa and Mrs Claus will lead the crowd to the AT&T Performing Arts Center where

12) Reliant is hosting another mega party.

From 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., the Reliant Light Your Holidays will feature live music performances from

13) country star Jack Ingram and

14) rock legend Los Lobos.

15) But It wouldn’t be an energy-sponsored event without LIGHTS so be sure to stay for the fireworks in Elaine D and Charles Sammons Park which

16) promises to be fully-dressed with gorgeous LED lights throughout the venue and on the trees.

17) Beverages and snacks will be available from Southwest Porch, and Pearl Cup coffee will be open in the Information Center.

Me and the Princess Cupcake will be there, but the REAL reason we want you to come to downtown Dallas is that I’ll be competing in the Gingerbread House contest against several other non-profit teams. (That should actually count as numbers 18 – 100, right?!) My team partner, Anna, and I are receiving a $1,000 donation to the Prestwick STEM Academy PTA for participating, and if we win, we’ll get $5,000. Anna is the PTA President and I’m a VP so it’s legit to say we’re in it to win it.

Reliant gives back so much to our community and I’m really, really, honored to be a part of this great giveaway for a lot of reasons – this one is especially personal for me and my family and our new community. Many of you know that we made the move this year to put the Cupcake in a STEM school (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). It’s the first year for this BRAND NEW school and unlike the private school where we came from where there’s loads of money for special projects, this public school is starting from ground zero with new walls, new curriculum, new staff, new everything. These kids don’t even have hooks to hang their coats on and when I tell you the playground is the size of a postage stamp, I’m not kidding. How they fit 60 kids on it at recess is an engineering experiment in and of itself. We’re working really hard this year to get the kids more playground equipment, shade to go over it for those 100 degree Texas days, and lots of other things that you would just take for granted at an already established school.

The contest will be a ton of fun, and Anna and I will do our Cupcake Wars best to bring this prize home, but I need your help too. We need text votes starting at 4:30 as that’s how the $5,000 prize is ultimately awarded. I’m begging you to watch the Facebook page for text details on Saturday afternoon! It would be REALLY even more awesome if you came down to watch too! We start at 3 p.m. in the AT&T Performing Arts Center. We might even give you the leftover candy if you show up. 🙂
