Looking for the perfect DIY hostess gift for Christmas or New Years? Bianca Schiffman made these festive fringe paper straws — complete with a custom gift box — for each of us during our Craft Exchange Challenge.
The Craft Exchange Challenge was to make something using these three Martha Stewart crafts products:
I can’t wait to use them as we countdown to New Years! I think they’ll be perfect in our manhattans.
In Bianca’s words, here’s how you can make some too.
What did you make? Gift box with fringe straws
Why did you choose it? I always buy these for different holidays and parties. Excited to use the fringe scissors to make!
What materials did you use? Straw, metallic tissue paper, craft box, decoupage, flocking, scrapbook paper, foam brush, cosmetic q-tips
Where did you get your materials? Regular craft stores
Cost of materials: Very low, already had most materials
How did you make it? Used Silhouette to cut letters and decoupage to adhere the letters, cut several sheets of tissue at once, wrapped tissue around straws, used decoupage to flock
How long did it take per item? Hour+
What was the hardest part about making this? Figuring out how to apply the flocking. Which adhesive to use…
What was the funnest part about making this? Cutting the fringe!
Do you like it? Sure!
If you made it again, what would you change? I would tape off the flocked areas to make them neater.
Would you make it again and why? Yep, it was easy, cute and fun to share! Usable!
