Do you have one of those friends that you don’t see often, but when you do, you speak this broken sentence thing because you’re both so much on the same wavelength that you can just finish each other’s thoughts and skip right on to the next one?
Yeah, so, that’s my friend Kayte.
I hope that one day I’ll grow up to be as amazingly creative and internet resourceful as she is. For now, I’m so happy to be hitchhiking along on her genius — and together, really fun things seem to transpire.
So when a text conversation from her starts like this….
It’s no surprise that it leads to the most fab “car picnic” with both a “drive in” movie and IMAX, an evening chock full of Harry Potter-themed science experiments, some serious cosplay and a little girl even asking for my autograph. (Squeal!) This is us as Luna Lovegood, Professor McGonnagle, Arwen the Ravenclaw, and my own little Hermoine Granger. (Absent from photo: Slytherin devotee and Sirius Black — neither of which could be persuaded to come in costume.)
It was the best wine-free family date night that I can remember AND I got to check out a new museum to take the Cupcake to.
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History hosts, “Reel Adventures in Science” where they pair an IMAX movie with really cool and relevant science experiments. This past weekend was all about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
We are HUGE HP fans in our house, and what a great excuse to wear our Halloween costumes again. Kayte assembled the best car picnic to include chocolate frogs and Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans,
including napkins,
I brought the butter “beer” because… well, beer.
We loaded up HP in our SUV entertainment system and hit the road for the long drive to Fort Worth.
The museum did a fab job at creating about 10 (maybe more?) science stations where young and old could try their hand at things like dark arts light painting,
Quiddith practice, samples of gillyweed,
practice with potion making,
hands on with the owls (stuffed), snakes (I wish they were stuffed),
they could get sorted,
put their name in the Goblet of Fire, draw out their dragon and more. (Seriously, there was more.)
I can’t speak highly enough of how incredible the museum staff was to pull all this off. The characters were spot on – my favorites were Rita Skeeter,
and Moaning Myrtle, for not just their costumes but they truly embodied their characters!
It was a terrific event and the museum has completely won me over. I can’t wait to go and explore all that that it has to offer. Be sure to check out their website at fortworthmuseum.org so you can get in on the fun for their next Reel Adventures or any of their other educational and fun exhibits.
