It’s Spring Break! Are you having a stay-cation like I am? No worries. Here’s a guest post from my friend Michelle Pino and she’s going to show you how to make a spa day at home. These mixes are so much fun for you to put together with your mini-me’s to give as gifts or as a gift to yourself. Enjoy!
Hey everyone! My name is Michelle Pino, I work at The Turning Stone Resort and Casino’s spa, Skana in a small town in central NY. I have written this article in hopes to share my knowledge with you about how simple and beneficial an at home spa treatment can be. Lending my expertise is one of the most rewarding things I do. I hope you enjoy these recipes!
You, Too, Can Have Glowing Skin!
If you are like most people in America, you watched the Oscars and marveled at how flawless each star’s skin was at the awards ceremony. That kind of perfection cannot be achieved without some effort. You can go to a spa to eliminate dry flakey skin, or you can try a DIY all-natural remedy at home for a fraction of the cost. Here are two recipes to help you achieve this look:
Body Scrub
Ingredients
- One cup brown sugar
- One-half cup of sweet almond oil or olive oil
- Six drops of vanilla essential oil
Directions:
Mix the ingredients in a mason jar.
The jar should be airtight if it will be stored overnight.
Application:
First, open your pores by taking a hot shower. Then, apply the sugar scrub mixture and scrub the body in a small circular motion. This ensures that dead skin is exfoliated. Rinse the scrub from the body.
The brown sugar will exfoliate the body and expose the fresh new skin beneath the dry scaly skin. The oil is the moisturizer in the mixture and will serve as a moisturizer to soften the skin. The vanilla essential oil will help the skin to smell good while nourishing it.
DIY Face Mask
Ingredients
- 3 Tablespoons Honey
- ½ Avocado
- 1 Egg White
Directions:
Blend all the ingredients together until the mixture reaches a smooth consistency. The mixture should be used immediately.
Application:
Wash the face to remove make-up and other products. Some people like to place a hot cloth over the face for a few minutes to open the pores before applying the mask. Apply the mask to every aspect of the skin except the eyes and mouth. The mask should sit for 10 minutes. Then, it should be washed off.
The facemask ingredients are all-natural and packed with vitamins and minerals. Avocado is recommended for hydrating the skin because it is full of vitamin K. Vitamin K can help to remove red or dark spots on the face. Honey serves as a moisturizer and has some antibiotic properties for healing and cleansing. Egg whites are simply used to hold the mixture together.
All-natural beauty products can cost a lot if they are purchased in a store, but making your own is more affordable. The best part is that you know you won’t have an allergic reaction if you only use ingredients that work best with your skin. You can also have peace of mind knowing exactly what you are putting on your skin, especially your face. The lack of chemicals in these easy, natural recipes will allow you to reap the benefits without facing the risks some products pose if they do contain unwanted chemicals.
