The holidays may be over but there’s still tons of family fun in DFW in the coming months. Here are a few things I have my eye on.
JANUARY
You’ve Stepped Back into an 80s Arcade
See if you can master some of the arcade games from the 80s era and maybe get your name added to their leaderboard!

Texas Rangers Fan Fest 2018
Batter Up! It’s time for the 2018 season of Texas Rangers baseball! Come tour the clubhouse, grab some autographs, meet the coaches, run the bases, and even take a swing in the batting cage.

Building Toys and Toy Buildings: Architecture Through a Child’s Eyes
Learn about the timeline of toys that have been used by children over the years including wooden blocks, Lincoln Logs, TinkerToys, Erector Sets, LEGOs and K’Nex. There will also be a variety of dollhouses on display, including one of the first Barbie Dreamhouses!

Dallas Area Train Show

Enjoy this new musical from Theatreworks USA, based on the series of books by Kimberly and James Dean.

Jurassic Quest
Marvel at a collection of prehistoric creatures as they come to life. The exhibition features more than 80 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs. Other activities include science stations, dinosaur-inspired crafts, face painting, a fossil dig and “Dino Bounce,” a series of inflatable dinosaur bounce houses.

Frost Fest
Bundle the kids up and come enjoy a day of winter activities including a snowy play area, ice skating, snow tubing, an inflatable maze and toboggan slide, train rides, ice sculpture demonstrations and family photo ops. Indoor activities include arts and crafts, story readings and puppet shows.

Travel to the Tropics Family Festival
Get out of the cold and learn about various butterfly species and their native countries. Kids can also participate in arts and crafts activities.

Texas Rangers Winter Carnival
Celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Frisco RoughRiders! Meet players and coaches, collect autographs, hang with team mascots and enjoy family-friendly activities. Ballpark concessions will be available for purchase. There will also be an autograph session from noon to 1 p.m.

Dinosaurs Live!
Take a half-mile nature trail back in time in this exhibit that features a Tyrannosaurus rex, a Dilophosaurus, and eight other dinosaur species! Future paleontologists can also enjoy an outdoor fossil dig, and climb on stationary baby dinosaurs for photo ops.

Sci-Tech Discovery Center National Engineering Week
National Engineering Week will kick off on Presidents Day (Monday, Feb. 19, 2018) and will showcase and explore inventions created by past presidents. The museum will offer hands-on activities aimed at exploring the science and engineering behind presidential inventions. There will also be family fun activities, electrifying stage shows, planetarium experiences and special guest speakers.

When: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on February 19th
Cost: General Admission – $5/member and $10/non-member; $2 Planetarium Show tickets available at the door; VIP Fast Pass – $10/member and $15/non-member. The VIP Fast Pass comes with early entry at 10 a.m., free take-home engineering activities built with the museum’s maker experts (from 10 – 11 a.m. only) and one free ticket to any planetarium show that day.
The museum will feature drop-in engineering activities and additional guest speakers that are free with paid admission from February 20 – 23. Cost: General admission – $8.50 (ages 3-64) and $7 for seniors ages 65+, military, teachers and groups of more than 10 people.

Space Mission Launches at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center
Be The First To Experience This Celestial Voyage Over Spring Break

The new intergalactic building experience allows guests to explore far-off alien planets built entirely out of thousands of LEGO® bricks. Visitors will be able to build their own spaceship, takeover mission control operations, and make a LEGO® rocket blast off into outer space complete with billowing smoke.
