My child has has 2 ipods (her first when she was 2), and iPhone, shares my iPad and MacBook, Nintendo, Wii and has various vtech products. As for her love for technology , in the south we say, “She comes by it honest.” Because her mama is a complete gadget junkie. I LOVE tech products, the more electronics to make my life more interesting and fun, the better.
So when me and the Princess Cupcake saw this Boogie Board by the checkout at the toy store, we were both enchanted. It’s sort of the modern day etch-a-sketch, but way more fun than the clunky red rectangle with dials on the corners that I remember from my youth. The Boogie Board a paperless LCD writing tablet and like eating potato chips where you can’t eat just one – you can’t draw just once on this smooth black surface without jonesing for more. Press the “erase” button, and in a flash, it’s clear and ready to write again.
It’s no wonder that the Boogie Board is the Learning Express 2012 Toy of the Year (among many other accolades) and I’ve got to believe it’s one of the hottest “toys” of the season because literally the next week, the Cupcake’s class had their own Boogie Board. I asked our teacher about it and if the kids liked it, and she said they LOVED it, and she wished she had more of them for her classroom.
Poof! A few days later, the class had 5. I guess everyone loves the Boogie Board!
Weighing in at only 4 ounces, and 1/8” thick, kids and adults alike are falling for these newfangled electronic sketch boards with companion stylus that come dressed in nine different colors. Retailing at approximately $40, it may seem like a little pricey for the 2012 version of a fancy drawing pad – except it’s addictingly fun and the uses are widespread. I think it’s totally worth it. Draw image/write note, touch magic erase button, draw again. The stylus is pressure sensitive, meaning press lighter for a skinnier line, heavier for a wider line.
The Boogie Board’s special 8.5” LCD screen retains your masterpiece without using any power and yet still provides sunlight-readability and wide viewing angles. There is one and only one “button” on the original Boogie Board which automagically erases the screen. The unique technology in the Boogie Board allows it to only require power when it erases, and therefore the internal power will last 6 years with up to 20 erases per day.
The nice people at Improv Electronics sent me a boogie board to review, except I never really got to play with it because the Cupcake took it the second she saw the box, and when she didn’t have it, the hubs was sketching while watching TV. Good thing they sent me my own version of the Boogie Board RIP (see review and give-away on my other website) too or I would still be waiting my turn!
I’ve seen tons of comments online where people have used the Boogie Board by their phone to take quick notes, or to make grocery lists, leave notes for the family, hospital-bound folks use it to communicate, some really interesting ways the Boogie Board made their life better – and they’re not just a one board household either. I think it’d be a great gift for the holidays for anyone. Honestly, I wanted to try out the Boogie Board for my kiddo as an alternative to her using up all my printer paper, but it’s so much more. (Get one, the trees will thank you!)
I found the Boogie Board to be a lifesaver on our Thanksgiving trip to Tennessee. It’s crazy lightweight so it didn’t weigh down my carry bag on the airplane, and it’s way smaller than toting around crayons and coloring books – and bonus: she can’t make me swear to save every drawing that she makes… When the Cupcake wasn’t using it, the hubs and I played hangman. See? Fun for the whole family.
I love the Boogie Board and the nice folks at Improv Electronics think you will too. Enter to win your own Boogie Board below, or if you’d like a chance to win the “grown-up” version of the Boogie Board (the Boogie Board RIP) which has a save function and is rechargeable, check out my review and give away of that product on my other website.
